Is Electric Bikepacking, The New Black? - The Final Chapter

Ebike designs are getting crazy and we decided that we'd see how crazy we could get with by heading deep into the forest service roads of eastern British Columbia.

For more perspective on the potential fun and potential limitations that ebikes can offer bike touring and bikepacking adventurers - have a look at these other trips we've done.

Pushing 100lbs of ebike up Middle Pass was almost a deal breaker

Easy pedaling away from my start point at Castle Ski Hill towards Middle Pass. I had no idea what was waiting for me. I was questioning my life choices while pushing the bike up and over Middle Pass.

The summit of Middle Pass, looking east. Hardest part of the route completed.

All downhill from here?

Over the top of Middle Pass, plunging down the other side into an overgrown trail that was impossible to see through and all I could image was running right into a bear munch away on berries. I was singing a made-up-as-go “OH HI BEAR, GO WAY BEAR” for quite awhile until the trail opened up into wider double track. Smooth sailing after that frightful segment.

Somewhere south of Elko, BC, getting close to the end of day 1.

Early morning, day 2, heading east out of Elko, taking the long way around to get to the Flathead Valley and eventually to Corbin.

Nobody for company except the occasional logging truck.

End of the dirt on day 2. This segment was something else. I was feeling a little out of sorts and was very happy to emerge into civilization and some pavements to finish the day. Rowdy back there…

Up an over the Continental Divide for the second time in 2 days.

Soft grass for the tent. Hot showers. And PIZZA! on the other side of the train tracks. Heaven.

Near the top of Lynx Creek Road, looking southwest at a landscape previously burned, more or less downhill all the way back to the car parked at Castle Ski Hill.
